The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Career Services hosted the Career Fair in the John F. Gibson University Center Green Room Friday, March 9. During the Career Fair, employers from around the area come to UAM to meet with graduating seniors and any other interested students. The UAM Bookstore also attended the Career Fair to provide students another chance to register for their graduation materials. If students missed the March 22 deadline to register, they can visit www.balfourcollege.com, according to Bookstore employee Lisa Higgins. Approximately 40 employers attended the Career Fair, which provided graduating students with an opportunity to meet potential employers, distribute their resumes and get an idea of the job market in the surrounding area. Senior Natural Science Major Ana Hunt said, “I am glad that we have something like this to go to. It’s hard sometimes to figure out what you want to do after you graduate, and the Career Fair gives you an idea of what your options are.” Director of Counseling, Testing and Career Services Lara Hughes complied resumes of UAM students who submitted by March 2. The resumes were collected in a resume booklet, which Career Services distributed to each of the attending employers. “This was a good opportunity to get out there and meet people,” said Shameka Jackson, a junior education major. “I was able to get my resume out to a lot of people just by going to the fair.” For more information on UAM's Career Services, contact Lara Hughes at 870-460-1454 or hughesl@uamont.edu, or stop by the Career Services office located in Harris Hall Room 201.
