Davis Takes Role of Special Events Director

Jennifer Jackson
Staff Writer

The University of Arkansas at Monticello recently named Steve Davis as the new Special Events Director.

Davis, of Monticello, coordinates all the events that take place at the UAM. He also takes care of the setup and take-down of events, reservation of all the rooms in the University Center, a few rooms in Harris Hall, two rooms in the library and everything at the Fine Arts Center.

Davis attended UAM for a year but received his Bachelor of Science degree in Church and Community Recreation from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., where he worked as a youth pastor for a few years.

Needing a change he moved back to Arkansas and lived in Little Rock for seven years. After an extended stay in Arkansas, Davis, a licensed massage and hypno-therapist, decided to move to Atlanta, Ga., and worked as a massage therapist for the Atlanta Falcons.

“Those guys are not bashful,” Davis said.

In 1997 Davis moved back to Little Rock where he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought a grueling battle and came out victorious. After taking a three year break from work due to medical reasons, he went back to work in 2000 at the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home here in Monticello. He worked as the Director of Student Life until he came to work at UAM.

“The best part about this job is when I leave work, I leave. I don’t take work home with me and I have a great boss,” Davis said.

Kevin Ward a student worker of three years in the Fine Arts department said, “I enjoy working for him, he’s a cool guy.”
