Jones is currently vice president for finance at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn., and spent 10 years in the University of Arkansas System as vice chancellor for finance at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas in Helena.

“I am pleased to welcome Jay Jones to UAM and to our senior management team,” said Lassiter. “Jay has an extensive background in financial management and is very familiar with the University of Arkansas through his work at Phillips Community College. We think Jay will be a tremendous asset to the institution and look forward to having him as part of the UAM family.”

A native of Helena, Jones is a graduate of Phillips County Community College and Northeast Louisiana University, where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting.

He began his career as an accountant for the Robert S. Turner CPA firm in Monroe, La., before accepting a position as controller at Phillips County Community College. He became the PCCC vice chancellor for finance in 1993, a post he held for the next eight years.

Jones is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Arkansas Society of CPA’s, the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers. He served as both treasurer and president-elect of the Arkansas Association of College and University Business Officers.

Jones was elected city treasurer of West Helena in 1998, serving four years in city government, and served eight years on the board of directors of the Arkansas Higher Education Consortium.

“I’m very excited about coming to UAM and working with Chancellor Lassiter,” said Jones. “I thoroughly enjoyed my previous experience in the University of Arkansas System and this is a wonderful opportunity to go back to something I love.”
