New Faces on the Field

Buford Lamb
Co-Sports Editor

You might have been noticing over the past two games that there are some new faces patrolling the sidelines. Coach Randall Bentley and Coach Demo Odems are the two newest additions to the UAM coaching powerhouse.

Coach Bentley was born Jan. 23, 1964 in Kennett, Mo., and attended Mountain Home High School as part of the 1982 graduating class. He relocated to the University of North Texas as part of the 1989 graduating class and received a Bachelor of Arts in Emergency Administration and Planning, later going on to get his Masters of Science in Sport Coaching at the United States Sports Academy in 2002.

He has a wife, Janet, two sons, Randall III and Ryder, and a daughter, Allison. Coach Bentley’s coaching history is both long and distinguished, from his start at University of North Texas as an offensive line coach to his last coaching job as the defensive coordinator, linebackers, and head track coach at Independence Community College.

Coach Bentley was also a linebacker and defensive lineman at UNT and at Western State College. Coach Bentley also coached beside Donald Dykes at Fort Valley State University, along with coaching at Anderson University as a defensive coordinator.

Coach Odems was born May 4, 1974 in Austin, Texas and attended Austin Lyndon Baines Johnson as part of the 1992 graduating class, and received a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Iowa as part of the 1996 graduating class.

He has a wife, Kimberly, and a son, Justin. Coach Odems started his coaching career at Lyndon Baines Johnson High School, his old Alma Mater, in 2001, before moving to Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas in 2002.

He then broke into the college coaching ranks when he was a graduate assistant coach and defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2005.

Coach Odems playing career started with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, when he helped them to a 27-0 win over Texas Tech in the 1996 Alamo Bowl. He then went on to play for the Texas Terminators (IPFL) in 1999 and the Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL) in 2002.
