Sept. 21 - Professor Calvina Thomas, Arkansas State Board of Nursing will visit the University of Arkansas - Monticello Nursing Division to conduct an on-site review of the Licensed Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing programs.

The ladies of the Sigma Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. received the award for highest Grade Point Average in the state of Arkansas at the sorority's 48th National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

New administrator - Jay Jones, the new Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, currently works as Vice President for Finance at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to this position, he served as Controller and then Vice Chancellor for Finance at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas. A copy of his resume and application are on reserve in the Library.

University Pool - The indoor swimming pool is used for a variety of classes and Open Swim. Contact the school of Education (460-1062) for information on classes in swimming, scuba diving and aquatonics. Open Swim is a time designated for eligible users to swim laps or recreate in the pool. A current UAM ID card must be presented to enter facility.

The Biology Club meets Sept. 14 to nominate officers.

The Foreign Language Club meets Sept. 14 at 12:40 p.m. in 312 Memorial Classroom Building. Everyone is invited

Residence Hall Association - All on campus residents are invited to attend the first RHA meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the UC Caucus Room.

The Spatial Information Systems Club meets bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 12:30 in room 209A of the Chamberlin Forest Resources Complex. The next meeting will be held Sept. 19.

Sigma Tau Delta meeting for new members on Sept. 21 at 12:40 in the Writing Center (MCB 115).  Initiation scheduled for Oct. 26 from 6-7 p.m. in the UC Senate Dining Room.

The U.N.I.T.Y choir rehearses Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Music building, Room 133. UNITY is open to all students. For more information, call 460-1743 or e-mail unityclub@uamont.edu.

Baptist Collegiate Ministries serve lunch at noon Wednesdays. First-timers eat free and everyone else eats for $2. Proceeds benefit summer mission trips and other activities.

The Social Work Club meets the first Wednesday of each month.

The Creative Society meets Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. outside the Patio Café. Do you like to write, draw, paint, sing, make stuff, or just be around creative people in general? If so, you should join the Creative Society! Anybody with any interest is welcome to come by and check it out. We are looking for a band or musician to play intermission and help us get Mocha Madness started. We also need people to help us make refreshments and set up before it starts.

The Student Activities Board meets from 12:40-1:30 p.m. in the Gibson University Center House Room on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The NAACP meets Thursdays at 6 p.m. in Horsfall Hall.

Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship hosts "Renown" meetings Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the MBSF Center (near the tennis courts). Come find out about weekly small groups and upcoming events. All students are encouraged to attend.

The Traffic Committee meets the first Thursday of each month.

Drew Country Writers meet on the third Thursday each month in the First Presbyterian Church library at 6:30 p.m. Members must produce tangible evidence that they write, though they may not have published at this point.

Opportunities/ Scholarships

The Monticello PEO Chapter offers a $500 one semester scholarship to a female graduate of Drew Central or Monticello High.  Additional requirements include completion of at least 24 credit hours and having a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall.  Upon completion, these should be returned to Admissions by November 1 for spring consideration.

Haunted House or possibly, a Halloween Party

Wandering Weevil Wheels - Donate your old bicycle to be a part of the inaugural fleet of
the Wandering Weevil Wheels. We are looking for bicycles that can carry an adult safely. 
They may need tires and minor repairs and that’s OK. Campus organizations will paint
them all in Wandering Weevil Colors. Contact Gary Marshall, adviser to the UAM Creative
Society, at marshall@uamont.edu to donate bikes and arrange for pick-up.

The University is inviting anyone (female) interested in playing intercollegiate golf to contact the Director of Athletics
at Steelman Field House (870-460-1058).  The team will compete in Gulf South Conference matches beginning with the Spring, 2007 semester.

UAM Hosts 4th Annual Battle of the Bands/Voices -  On Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center, the Pi Kappa Delta/ Debate Society will host its 4th Annual Battle of the Bands/Voices. The competition will feature bands and singers from throughout the region. Admission is $3 with a valid UAM ID and $4 without one. If you have a band or you’re a singer and would be interested in competing, please contact either Brian Rauls at (870)918-5554 or Joel Brown at (870)299-1947. The winner of the competition will be featured on Rock 102.7 Crossett/Monroe. So please come out and support your local talent!

NASA Means Business Student Competition 2007 - This year's topic employs NASA 's space exploration mission in the promotion of science, technology, engineering and math education among middle and high school students. University students from a broad range of backgrounds are invited to employ their skills in this capstone program to design and develop:

    * A NASA STEM Education Promotion Plan, and

    * Flagship promotion projects in the form of digital video, print media, and Internet media productions.

Students studying engineering and natural science, advertising, marketing, communication, radio-television-film, journalism and other similar professions are encouraged to form  multidisciplinary teams. Read the Competition Guidelines posted at http://www.tsgc.utexas.edu/nmb.

Follow the directions and complete the entrance counseling/interview. TRANSFER STUDENTS who have not had a loan at UAM before will also need to complete this. If you need help completing this, please call 870-460-1050 or stop by the financial aid office.

As a reminder, the University of Arkansas at Monticello no longer mails grade reports to  students at the end of the term. For the convenience of students, grades and other information can be accessed through Campus Connect, located on the UAM homepage, www.uamont.edu. *Any student who wishes to have a mailed grade report must complete a request with the Registrar’s Office prior to the last day of final exams. This form is also available in the Student Services offices at Crossett and McGehee. Questions???  Call the Registrar’s Office at 870-460-1034.

Visit the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center on the Monticello campus from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday and  2-10 p.m. Sunday.

The Patio Café now takes phone-in orders at 460-1376 Monday through Friday for lunch (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) and dinner (4 – 7 p.m.). Visit the Web site for menus and prices.

To receive mailed materials from the university, your permanent mailing address must be accurate. If you’ve had a change in your address, stop by the Registrar’s Office (Harris Hall, first floor) or the Student Services office at Crossett or McGehee to complete a "Change in Student Data" form. The form should also be completed if you’ve had a change in your name, local address, or telephone number. There is no charge for making a change in your data. A photo ID is required when the "Change in Student Data" form is submitted.
