Cotton Blossom - Tipton broke the team's home run record previously held by Julie Bowen.

Becca Tipton set a freshman school record by hitting her 10th home run on the season in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against West Georgia.

Tipton passed Julie Bowen, who hit nine in 1999, with a two-run blast in the fifth inning.

“It feels really good setting a school record.  I’m really excited about it,” Tipton said.  “My coaches over the years have really helped me a bunch.”

Tipton leads the team in several offensive categories and is on pace to break several team records.  She needs 9 home runs to pass Laura Lockaby, who it 18 in 2003.  Tipton needs 40 RBIs to pass Bowen’s single season RBI record of 71 set in 2000 and 12 doubles to pass Bowen’s record of 21 set in 2000.

Tipton is currently batting .446 on the year with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored.  With 45 regular season games and the conference tournament to play, Tipton could rewrite the school and the Gulf-South Conference’s record books.
