Sports Editor The Cotton Blossoms swept Ouachita Baptist in a back and forth battle by the score of 10-8. The Blossoms improved their record to 12-7 and 3-1 in conference play. Pitching and defense struggled in the second game but the big bats led by Jenny Dunn sealed the game for the Blossoms. “It was one of those games that the defense and pitching wasn’t as good as we hoped but the bats came through,” Head Coach Alvy Early said. The Blossoms used three pitchers in the contest. Starter Allison North pitched 2.1 innings, giving up six runs off six hits. K.K. Calloway came in as relief, pitching for 2.3 inning giving up two unearned runs off 4 hits. Kate Brady threw two scoreless innings allowing no hits and striking out two for her second win on the day and sixth on the season. OBU came out strong in the first inning scoring three runs on three hits. Kayla Curbow led off the inning with a single to left field. Curbow stole second base and was knocked in when Haley Chambers doubled to center. Lauren Western hit a two-run home run to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead. The Blossoms fired back in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs off three hits. Meredith Heckel singled to left, bringing up Sarah Reed, who hit a two-run home run. Kayla Temple hit her second home run on the day three batters later to tie the score at three. Joleah Oxner put the Blossoms a head 4-3 when she scored on a throwing error by the catcher. OBU came back in the third going up 6-4. Chambers opened the inning with a single back to the pitcher, hitting North in the leg. North never regained composure, giving up a single by Western and a three-run homer by Jeni Maxton. She hit the next batter and was replaced by Calloway who ended the inning with no additional damage. In the bottom on the fourth, the Blossoms battled back. Lauren Brooks hit a double to left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Heckel singled down the left field line scoring Brooks, and Becca Tipton knocked her in with a double to left tying the game at six. Dunn broke the tie with a two-run home run over left center. OBU tied the game again in the fifth. Danielle Oldenburg scored off a wild pitch and Amanda Loyd singled to left scoring Maxton from third tying the game at eight. In the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Tipton hit a single to center to bring Dunn to the plate. Dunn broke the tie for the second time with a two-run home run to give the Blossoms their final lead of the game. “They pretty much pitched it in the right spot,” Dunn said after her second home run of the game. The Blossoms played again Sunday, March 4 against West
