Sports Editor The Blossoms ended their three-game win streak over the weekend losing to West Georgia 7-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. “You have to be satisfied with the split. We played six games in four days and fatigue set in,” Head Coach Alvy Early said. “We got in a hole early and we couldn’t get out. We were a little slow on things” West Georgia opened scoring in the second when Jessie West started the inning with a solo home run. They pushed three more across in the third off four hits. Jessie Wise singled with bases loaded to score a run, and two more runs were pushed across on a fielding error. The Blossoms got on the board in the fourth when Jenny Dunn hit a solo home run, her seventh on the season. West Georgia extended their lead in the fifth and sixth inning. Mary Carlisle opened the fifth with a solo home run. In the sixth, Paige Hanson doubled to left center scoring a run. Hanson was knocked in when Brianna Foster singled to right and the Wolves a 7-1 lead. The Blossoms tried to mount a come back in the seventh,
but it was too late. Gemma Gibson opened the inning with a single to left
center. Terri Rodgers walked two batters later and was put out when Meredith
Heckel hit into a fielders choice. Sarah Reed doubled to right center scoring
Gibson from third. Heckel scored off a wild pitch, but Dunn hit into a
fielder’s choice to end the rally. The loss broke the Blossoms home win streak at seven games and puts them at 13-8 on the season. They start a 14-game road stretch Tuesday, March 6 in Cleveland, Miss., playing Delta State in a doubleheader. Sports Information contributed to the article. Have a comment?
