Sports Editor Dominate pitching and solid hitting helped the Blossoms beat West Georgia in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, March 4. The mercy rule came into effect in the sixth inning. Leah Vaughn picked up her second win on the season with a three hit shutout. She struck out six in her performance. Becca Tipton set a freshman record, hitting her 10th home run on the season in the fifth. Tipton went a perfect 2-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jenny Dunn also went a perfect 3-3 with two RBIs. Meredith Heckel went 2-4 picking up her seventh home run in the process and Sarah Reed, Kate Brady, Kayla Temple and Gemma Gibson all had base hits. “Our bats are staying hot and its helping out our pitchers,” Reed said. “Our defense is really playing well too.” The Blossoms opened scoring in the first when Dunn singled to left scoring Reed from second. They put two more across in the fourth when Dunn picked up an RBI off a double to left center. One batter later, Temple singled to center scoring Dunn and giving the Blossoms a 3-0 lead. The Blossoms extended their lead to 7-0 in the fifth.

record setting homer run to end scoring in the fifth. Merredith Heckel ended the game in sixth with a lead off walk off home run giving the Blossoms their 13th win of the season.
