A. J. Hood of Coleman, a senior agriculture business major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, was one of nine UAM students who participated in the recent 2007 Southern Agriculture Economics Association (SAEA) Quiz Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Hood was part of a team that earned first runner-up in a competition that featured competitors from nine universities. Other UAM students participating in the competition were Paige Bolin of Pine Bluff, Corey Bryant of Monticello, Brian Hobson of Shaw, Miss., John Jackson of Star City, Tim Megee of Monticello, Janetta Pugh of Winchester, Josh Rawls of Monticello and Keith Sowell of Monticello. Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics Bob Stark serves as faculty advisor for the UAM participants, who also served as a judge and reader during parts of the competition. Quiz Bowl is an undergraduate student activity of the SAEA that tests students’ knowledge disciplines such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, resource/policy, agribusiness/finance, marketing and management. Students were assigned to two-to-three person teams with no more than one team member from a single university. Fifty-three students from nine universities comprised the 18 mixed teams in the competition.

Arkansas-Fayetteville, Arkansas Tech University, University of Florida,
Mississippi State University, University of Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee
Tech University, Virginia Tech University and West Texas A&M University.
