Winner - Brad Johnston accepts congratulations from President of the Drew County Farm Bureau Bobby Hood.  Johnston won the award Feb. 23.

Brad Johnston of Hampton, a senior general agriculture major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, accepts congratulations from Bobby Hood, president of the Drew County Farm Bureau, for winning the UAM Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet recently held on the UAM campus.

Johnston is president of the UAM Collegiate Farm Bureau that co-sponsored the event with the Arkansas Farm Bureau. Johnston represented UAM in the state finals of the Collegiate Discussion Meet in Little Rock Friday, Feb. 23.

The collegiate meet is modeled after the statewide Young Farmers & Ranchers contest sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau. Participants discuss a current agricultural issue in a committee-meeting format. Points are given for analysis of the topic, problem solving and implementation, a cooperative attitude and general delivery. Each participant makes individual opening and closing statements of their own composition.

Moderators for the activity were Professor of Agriculture Paul Francis and Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics Bob Stark, UAM CFB faculty advisors. Whitney Whitworth, assistant professor of animal science, served as timekeeper. Judges were Bobby Hood, Drew County Farm Bureau president; Scott Akin, extension entomologist at the Southeast Research and Extension Center and Teddy Patterson and Harry Willems of the Arkansas Farm Bureau.
