Sports Editor The University of Arkansas at Monticello's women softball team opened the UAM Super 8 – Subway Classic with a 5-0 win over the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday, Feb. 16. After a 3-6 performance in Hawaii, the Cotton Blossoms came home to an excited crowd and did not disappoint. “Overall the effort was good. We played well for the first game back from Hawaii,” said Alvy Early, head coach of the Cotton Blossoms. Freshman Allison North (1-2) picked up her first win of the season by pitching seven shut-out innings. She struck out six batters and allowed five hits. “We had outstanding pitching from freshman Alison North,” said Lauren Brooks, junior second baseman. The Blossoms came out strong, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Kate Brady started the action with a RBI single, scoring Sarah Reed. Meredith Heckel scored off a wild pitch shortly after. Becca Tipton doubled with two outs, knocking in Brady for the last run of the inning. In the bottom of the third, the Blossoms extended their lead when Joleah Oxner singled to left, scoring Tipton. The Blossoms last score came off a Heckel single, scoring Terri Rodgers in the bottom of the fifth. Tipton led the Blossoms in hitting going 2-3 with an RBI
and run scored. Other notable performances came from Heckel, 2-4 with an
RBI and run scored; Oxner, 1-2 with an RBI; Rodgers, 1-3 with a run scored and Brady,
