The Student Activities Board and Aramark hosted a Valentine Dinner for three couples -- David and Regina Vaughn, Esbeida and Ben Higginbotham, and Brittney Banks and Timothy Woods -- in the Gibson University Center's Senate Room Feb. 14.
Jamie Glisson, project manager for Aramark, and Lindsey Kight, director of Student Activities and Programs, developed the idea of the Valentine dinner. Students received the opportunity to win the dinner, which included a catered meal, a movie, and a card and flowers, by filling out little slips of paper placed on the tables in the dinning room of the cafeteria.
The question printed on the slips simply asked why the students deserved a free catered meal. Eighteen students signed up and one was written for the winning couples. Glisson said he hoped everyone enjoyed themselves.
“I hope that everybody enjoys it and are looking forward to it coming around next year,” Glisson said.
The first winners, David and Regina Vaughn, received a surprise when they found out they won and did not even enter themselves in the contest. David Vaughn said random people congratulated them for winning and they did not know they had won until he read the flier announcing the winners. He said it was a surprise and he enjoyed having a romantic dinner with his wife.
“It was really nice to go out with Regina. We hadn’t been able to go out in four months because we had a baby,” Vaughn said.
“It was nice; the music was relaxing and very enjoyable,” Banks said. “I love the setting of the place; it looked like a fancy restaurant and the food was wonderful.”
