Weevils Fall to Delta Devils

ITTA BENA, Miss. (Feb. 8) -- The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils (1-1) managed just two hits as they dropped a 6-1 decision to the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils on Wednesday at Delta Devils Field.

   MVSU opened scoring, plating two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and chasing UAM starter Tyler Price (So., Maurice, La.), who allowed two runs and three hits in four and two-thirds innings, fanning two and walking one.

   The Weevils pulled to within 2-1 after an RBI double by Gus Villegas (Jr., Cangues, Puerto Rico) in the top of the sixth inning; but the Delta Devils responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. MVSU held UAM to just one hit for the remainder of the game, sealing the Delta Devils’ victory.

   Price suffered the loss for UAM, falling to 0-1 on the season. David Nix (Fr., Camden, Ark.) tossed two and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
