Linna Jones Staff Writer The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s first jazz band received an invitation from Hope and Hamburg High Schools to play for their band students. The band played at Hope High school Jan. 30 and at Hamburg High School Jan. 31. The band played “Signifyin’,” “Egg St. Jack,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Squatty Roo” and “Don’t Get Caught” for the students. Danielle Ayres, alto saxophone player, commented on the experience of playing for the students. “It’s fun; I like to entertain. I tend to be nervous, but I try to make it fun for me and the audience,” Ayres said. Band Director Gary Meggs commented on the crowd’s reaction and how the jazz band benefits the program. “The students loved it,” Meggs said.
“The jazz band and the marching band are the two top recruiting groups
for the band.”
