Get your passports ready! Gwen Twillie takes visitors on a world-wide adventure at “Globetrotting with Dr. Gwen.” Globetrotting will take place Feb. 15-17 at the Museum of Discovery as part of the Museum’s “80 Years of Discovery” celebration.

Using folktales and maps, Twillie’s multi-cultural program makes learning about different cultures and world geography both fun and entertaining for all ages. Programs run Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Twillie, former Chairwoman of the Theater Arts and Dance Department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, served on the UALR faculty for 26 years before retiring in 1999. A dancer, dance historian and choreographer by training, she performed in numerous dance, opera and dramatic productions and has choreographed several major works.

In addition to her extensive background in dance, Twillie performs as a professional storyteller specializing in traditional folk tales from around the world. In her travels, she and her husband collected stories from Africa, Alaska, the Caribbean Islands, China, Europe, Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Venezuela, South Africa and most recently Australia and New Zealand. Since her retirement she has devoted her time to the lifelong love of storytelling.

Founded in 1927, The Museum of Discovery is Little Rock’s oldest museum. It remains a fixture of the River Market District in Downtown Little Rock and welcomes visitors into a “world of discovery for all ages.”  Throughout 2007, the Museum is proud to celebrate “80 Years of Discovery.”  The year long celebration will include special events and exhibits designed to showcase science, history and technology.

Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for children ages 1-12, $7 for seniors over 65 and free for children under one. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday. For more information, call the Museum of Discovery at (501) 396-7050 or visit www.amod.org.
