The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s cheer squad held open cheerleader tryouts Jan. 22 for two female positions. Eleven girls tried out for the position. Senior Kellie Hoskins from Helena, Ark., and freshman Shay Stanley from Hamburg, Ark., made the two positions.
Lindsey Kight responded on the experience of both girls and how they would benefit the squad. Hoskins cheered last year bringing her former experience to the squad, and Stanley cheered in high school.
“They are really going to add depth and character and mesh well with the other girls. They are going to benefit us,” Kight said.
Junior Courtney Levingston, captain, commented on the talent and ambition of the new girls.
“They were very talented; the two that we picked up could both tumble, had really good jumps, and they could stunt. One had previously stunted before and the new one just learned pretty fast. They have everything they need to be a college cheerleader, and they are helping us out a whole lot because we were low in numbers,” Levingston said.
