Sports Editor Scott Saffold, senior vice president of Union Bank, spoke to the student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Delta Sigma Theta sorority in room 315 of the Babin Business Center Jan. 24. Saffold, a UAM grad and Monticello native, discussed topics ranging from personal investment to job application. “The number one thing we look for is experience,” he said. “Work somewhere. Get an internship if you can, or just volunteer. GPA is important but experience is a must.” He stressed a good resume and interviewing skill when applying for a job. “Your resume is your ticket. Target things you’ve done at UAM. Use organizations to show off your business skills.” Saffold said. “Be prepared before you go in for an interview. The more you do it, the better you are. … know you.” When asked about investment and planning for the future, Saffold said to start young and put money back now. “When you are young be aggressive. When you are older be more conservative,” he explained. Delta Sigma Theta helped sponsor the speaker as part of their five point thrust program. Myisha Colston, financial secretary of DST and vice president of IMA, said that the sorority wanted to learn more about economic development and financial awareness. “I learned that you could never be too young to start
investing in your future.” Colston said.
Twenty-two members of both organizations attended the meeting as
well as faculty
