Staff Writer Java City and the Patio Café lengthened their opening times to benefit faculty, staff, and the student body. Java City opens in the evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. as well as their day time hours and the Patio Café changed its hours to 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Patio Café and Java City provides students with an opportunity to get something to eat, drink, and even a place to study or hang out anytime from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Patio Café’s business since the new hours grows said Jennifer Roehm, a Patio Café worker. “It really picks up between those hours; we have two or three customers during these hours. There are a lot of on-campus students and we also have teachers and faculty that come and eat here,” Roehm said.
Aramark Food Service Director Charlie Kremer said between lunch and dinner they have a decent amount of business at the Patio Café and there are a lot of students in the building. However, Kremer said they would like to do more business with commuter students. “It is a really big challenge to get [commuter students] to come,” Kremer said. Java City tried last year to have evening hours and because of slow business, they discontinued them. Kremer brought back the hours this semester to continue until the end of the year. “We have a service to offer to the students, and we are going to run it through to the end of the semester to give students time to know that we are open at night,” Kremer said. “We are going to give it a chance to make it.”
Kremer also commented on the fact that it gives the
students a chance to have refreshments. “It’s a place that students can go to get a drink, but it is also a place they can get something to eat,” Kremer said. Have a comment?
