University of Arkansas at Monticello head football coach Gwaine Mathews announced the hiring of Sam Gregg as offensive line coach and 2003 Harlon Hill trophy winner Will Hall as the Boll Weevils’ new offensive coordinator.

Hall played two years at Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama, capping his career with one of the finest seasons in the history of Division II football, winning the Harlon Hill trophy, which honors the top player in all of Division II, after passing for 3,531 yards and 30 touchdowns, and being named an All-American by Daktronics, Football Gazette, d2football.com and the Associated Press.

Hall jumped directly into coaching after graduation, serving as an assistant at both Presbyterian and Henderson State before jumping to Southwest Baptist, where he spent the last season as offensive coordinator. Hall’s offense at Southwest Baptist ranked 24th nationally in total offense, racking up 375.7 yards per game and ranked 21st nationally in passing offense, averaging 240.8 yards per game.

Gregg and Hall are no strangers to one another; aside from coaching last year at Southwest Baptist, the two were also high school teammates at Amory (Miss.) High School where they won a state title together.

Gregg started his collegiate playing career at Ittawamba Community College and moved on to play his final two years at Murray State, starting several games on the offensive line. Prior to joining the coaching staff at Southwest Baptist, Gregg spent one year as an assistant under Tommy West at Memphis coaching an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks in the nation, giving up just five sacks in 465 pass attempts.

“I think Will Hall is going to be a great addition to our staff,” Mathews said. “I think his name alone will help us in recruiting, not only where he played in Alabama and Mississippi, but in Division II in general. And we all know that getting big-time players in here on offense will definitely get our offense going.”

“Sam Gregg is well known as an offensive line guy,” Mathews added. “The fact that he and coach Hall have a special relationship going back to their high school days will be key ingredients in their cohesiveness.”

“I think that the numbers that coaches Hall and Gregg were able to put up at Southwest Baptist will definitely help us as we go recruiting against some of the other schools in the league.”
