Contributing Writer Through the Continuing Education and Non-Credit Program at the University of Arkansas - Monticello College of Technology-McGehee, instructor Mary Wells will teach another Basic Oil Painting class beginning Jan. 18. The class will meet Thursday evenings on the McGehee campus from 6–9 p.m., ending March 8. Wells will introduce students to the basics of oil paints, brushes, color palettes and composition. Registration and payment of fees ($80 tuition) will be accepted the first night of class. Supplies will cost approximately $40.
“I love to paint and it’s been a dream of mine to teach a local class because I feel that we have talented people in this community with stories that could be expressed through their painting,” she said.
Wells
previously taught a basic oil painting class at the old Watson School Annex
to residents in the local area during the fall semester. Fourteen students,
who ranged in age from teens to senior citizens, completed two projects in
the eight-week period. The McGehee Desha County Library hosted an exhibit of
the students’ work display over the Christmas holiday. Anyone interested in taking this class can contact Wells at (870) 644-3982 or Sharon Cantrell, Continuing Education Coordinator, UAM College of Technology-McGehee (870) 222-5360. Have a comment?
