Library Remembers Two Historic Figures through Exhibits

Fred J. Taylor Library staff has prepared displays on the lives of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and former President Gerald R. Ford.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

According to the King Center, at www.thekingcenter.org, and a presentation made by Library Director Sandra Dupree Campbell Jan. 13 titled “Remember! Celebrate! Act!  A Day On . . . Not a Day Off,” the 2007 observance of the holiday marks the:

ˇ         78th anniversary of the birth of King

ˇ         39th Annual King Center Program in Atlanta, Ga.

ˇ         21st anniversary of the national holiday

Monticello and Drew County have sponsored activities honoring the civil rights activist for over 20 years. UAM closed Monday, Jan. 15, for the holiday.  Educational events were held on campus Tuesday, Jan. 16.  Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., sponsored an activity during the lunch hour.

Gerald R. Ford

According to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum, at http://www.ford.utexas.edu/, Ford was:

ˇ         40th Vice President of the United States

ˇ         38th President of the United States

ˇ         Elected as a Congressman from Michigan for 13 terms

Drop by the library from now until the end of January to learn more about these two historic figures. Don’t forget . . . the library is happy to host the displays of student organizations.  Contact Mary Heady at 460-1080 or heady@uamont.edu, for more details.
