Turnovers Doom Blossoms in Loss to Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA (Jan. 18) --- The University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms (5-12) committed 22 turnovers in a 67-53 loss to the Henderson State University Lady Reddies Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.

   The Blossoms got off to a hot start, pulling ahead by eight (13-5) just five minutes into the game. However, Henderson State fought back quickly, pulling ahead (15-14) on a Lauren Hill three-pointer at the 11:44 mark. HSU extended their lead to thirteen (31-18) with just over three minutes remaining in the half.

   The Blossoms were able to pull to within nine (33-24) at halftime as Gemma Gibson (Jr., Dodd City, Texas) hit a pair of free throws with one second remaining in the half.

   UAM took charge over the first five minutes of the second half, pulling to within one (35-34) with 15:49 remaining. However, the Lady Reddies pulled ahead yet again, extending their lead back to ten (58-48) with 2:14 remaining in the game.

   Henderson State continued to add to their lead through the final minute as the Lady Reddies sealed the win.

   Tasha Owens (So., Fox, Ark.) led UAM with a career-best 16 points. Bia da Silva (Sr., Sao Paolo, Brazil) tied a season high with 15 points.

   The Blossoms return to action Saturday, Jan. 20, as they host Arkansas Tech at Steelman Fieldhouse. A 4
p.m. tip-off is scheduled.
