Campus organizations co-sponsored a showing of Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” Wednesday, Jan. 17 and Thursday, Jan. 18. The National Wildlife Federation provided the movie at no charge for DVD-watching events across the United States.

Twenty-one people attended Wednesday's showing hosted by the Journalism Club and the Weevil Film Society at lunch in the auditorium of the Memorial Classroom Building. Thirty more attended the Thursday evening viewing hosted by the Southeast Arkansas Science Teachers Association in the Science Center's auditorium.

The film, based off a multimedia presentation developed by Gore, highlights the dangers and consequences of global warming by using multiple bar graphs, charts and video segments spliced into segments of an actual presentation of the slideshow by Gore and scenes from his life and career.

The showing attracted not only students and professors but also people from the surrounding community.

Sandra Campbell, director of the Fred J. Taylor Library, attended the film with her book club and found the movie interesting and thought-provoking. Campbell said the film “enlightened” her and made her ask, “How can I do more?”

“We think of (global warming) as a cooperate problem but it is up to us as individuals to make a difference as well,” Campbell said.

Others in attendance at Wednesday's viewing called the film “very interesting,” “well documented” and “insightful.”

The film closes by presenting various ways that individuals can make a difference and asks the viewer the question, “Are you ready to change the way you live?”
