Three Blossoms Inducted into Alpha Chi Honor Society

Paul Smith
Sports Information Director

Three University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms softball players have been inducted into the Alpha Chi national college honor society, in recognition of their academic performance at UAM.

Rachael Blakley (Sr., Bryant, Ark.), Lauren Brooks (Jr., West Monroe, La.) and Meredith Heckel (Jr., Hot Springs, Ark.) were all selected for induction into Alpha Chi. All three were NFCA Scholar Athlete selections, while both Brooks and Heckel were ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-District selections.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students from all academic disciplines. To qualify for membership, students must post a 3.5 grade point average and rank in the top ten percent of the junior and senior classes.

“We have always tried to bring student-athletes to UAM who put an emphasis on academics,” said head softball coach Alvy Early. “This is the ultimate recognition on our campus for academic success, not just for student-athletes, but for all students.”
