Official Arkansas license plates commemorating the 2009 centennial celebration at the University of Arkansas at Monticello are now available at Department of Revenue offices in 10 southeast Arkansas counties as well as the State Revenue Office in Little Rock, according to Linda Yeiser, UAM vice chancellor for advancement.

The license plates are a combination of UAM's school colors - green and white - with both the university logo and the school's boll weevil mascot on the left side of the plate. The UAM plates cost an additional $35 above the standard license fee, with $25 serving as a tax-deductible contribution to the UAM Foundation Fund.

"The tags look great and we're excited to give our alumni and friends the opportunity to show their support for UAM," said Yeiser. "It's a way to tell the world you're proud to be a boll weevil and to support the Foundation."

The license plates will be available at the revenue offices in Drew, Bradley, Ashley, Chicot, Desha, Lincoln, Cleveland, Union, Arkansas and Jefferson Counties as well as the state office located in the Charles D. Ragland Building at 7th and Battery in Little Rock.

UAM joins a growing list of Arkansas colleges and universities with their own license plates, but according to Yeiser, UAM is the first institution allowed to offer plates anywhere other than its home county.
