Welcome to the beginning of another semester! The library encourages you to “Team Up with UAM and the Library to Find Your Path to Success.” The library has a number of services to help you find your path to success. Library faculty and staff, as listed in this directory (http://www.uamont.edu/library/newsite/about/staff.html), are happy to help you every step of the way.

General assistance with using the library and its resources is available during all of the hours which the library is open. (Please note that the library is closed during holidays, and otherwise, as posted.)

The librarians are also happy to make individual appointments with you for more in-depth reference assistance.

Library Website

The library is happy to announce the launching of a new website (http://www.uamont.edu/library/). Using suggestions from students, staff and faculty, the library has retooled its website to make it more user friendly. From the library homepage, you may search for books and journal titles in the library catalog, search for articles in the research databases, locate journals in the “Magazine, Newspaper, and Journal Finder,” and get help with your assignments through the subject guides and library guides. Learn more about the library through the Library Services and What’s New sections.

 Bibliographic Instruction

Bibliographic instruction is teaching students about how to use the library and its resources. Your professor may schedule a class period in the library or in a computer lab where a librarian will teach you about the resources which will be most helpful in your class. You can also request individual research consultations with a librarian. (Please see the library directory at http://www.uamont.edu/library/newsite/about/staff.html for further details.)

 Interlibrary Loan

If you are looking for a book or article to which the library does not have access, you may request that the library borrow from other libraries in the state or even other libraries in the country. Visit the library’s interlibrary loan form at http://www.uamont.edu/library/newsite/serv/ill.html to take advantage of this service.

 New Books

Librarians will send out e-mails and other announcements to apprise you of new resources available in the library. Keep your eyes open for these announcements to learn about interesting new books and resources!

 Exhibits

Two exhibit cases are located at the entrance to the library. Take a look at the cases when you drop by the library. They may contain an exhibit from your student organization or one you would like to join! The library hosts exhibits from student organizations. Student organizations are encouraged to arrange a time to display an exhibit in one of these cases.

 Special Collections

Special collections serves as the place on campus where university history and Arkansas history is stored and accessed. Located on the second floor of the library, special collections is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Remember that the history of student organizations is a part of the history of the university, and we want to hear from you!

 Behind the Scenes

The library provides some very important services which keep everything in the library operating smoothly. These include circulation, which is the system by which students check books in and out, and cataloging, which is the process by which books are purchased and made available to students. In addition, as a Federal Depository Library, the library receives about 20% of the publications put out by government agencies. The library also purchases magazines, newspapers, and journals for the use of students, faculty and staff.

As you journey on your path to success, the library and its staff are here to help you. So, please take advantage of the library resources in order to “Team Up with UAM and the Library to Find Your Path to Success.”
