Students Win at Organizational Fair

Michael Ford
Editor-in-Chief

The organizational fair took place in the Green Room of the Gibson University Center Aug. 25 with 31 organizations participating.

The fair is held at the beginning of each school year and allows students to become familiar with the different organizations on campus. It also gives organizations an opportunity to recruit potential members.

Jessica Winkler, a first year student from Paris, Texas, said she thought the fair was neat and that everyone there was very nice and helpful.

“It was nice to get to know a little about the organizations here,” she said. “The free chicken nuggets were a plus.”

In addition to the organizations, four local banks – Commercial, Parkway, Simmons and Union – also participated.

“The banks were there to let students know they care and to encourage them to set up accounts with them,” said Lindsey Kight, director of student activities. “They were there on a business level and for the drawings.”

The banks awarded winners of the drawings with savings bonds:

  • Chris Allen won a $50 savings bond from Union Bank.
  • Seth Glaze won a $50 savings bond from Union Bank.
  • Stephanie Hackney won a $50 savings bond from Parkway Bank.
  • Shameka Jackson won a $50 savings bond from Commercial Bank.
  • Corrie Ross won a $100 savings bond from Simmons Bank.
  • Jennisha Turner won a $50 savings bond from Parkway Bank.
  • Jessica Winkler won a $50 savings bond from Commercial Bank.

In addition to the savings bonds, Amanda Haught won a $100 gas card.

Glaze said he had fun at the fair but felt not very many first-year students came through.

However, Allen said he thought the fair was good and he saw a lot of organizations getting involved.
