Students from EAST Labs at Monticello and Drew Central High Schools created a new internet website for the School of Education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

The website was officially unveiled in May at a luncheon on the UAM campus for the students and school administrators hosted by the Education Renewal Zone of the School of Education.

Students involved in the project were Ashlon Avery, Janet Jamison, Haleigh Farmer and Ashley Horn of Monticello High School and Kacie Barnett and Erica Hood of Drew Central.

The proposal to build a new website was presented to MHS and DCHS administrators by Donna Hunnicut and Mary Jo Barnett, faculty members in the School of Education.

"We thought this was a wonderful way for the university to reach out to the public schools and for the two EAST Labs to collaborate on an interesting project," said Dr. Peggy Doss, dean of the School of Education.
Hunnicut and Barnett met with Turah West, EAST Lab instructor at MHS and MHS Principal Kenny Pennington along with Barbie Eubanks, Drew Central's EAST Lab instructor, and DCHS Principal Frank Ferguson.

"Both Drew Central and Monticello were very supportive of the project and we are very pleased with the results," said Doss.

The students were given basic instructions on what was needed for the website, then turned loose to create their own design.

"They designed a very professional website," said Barnett. "We were so pleased with what they've done that we're going to ask them to assist individual faculty as they design personal websites."

Joining the students and their instructors at the luncheon were UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs David Ray, UAM faculty members Hunnicut, Jay Hughes, Dr. Sue Martin, Barnett and administrative assistant Maryland Avery. Attending from Drew Central were Superintendent Mike Reeves and Ferguson. Monticello High School was represented by Pennington, West and Assistant Superintendent Tommy Tyler.
