The University of Arkansas - Monticello College of Technology-Crossett has received approval from the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services to serve as a training site for the Child Development Associate (CDA) training program.

The CDA certification is required in many childcare facilities and educational settings, especially those receiving state and/or federal funding, according to Linda Rushing, vice chancellor of the UAM COT-Crossett.

"We are striving to provide new educational opportunities that not only meet the career interests of individuals in our area, but also meet the workforce needs of employers," said Rushing. "CDA certification has enhanced the quality of childcare services being provided, and that has generated increased interest in the training program."

The CDA requires nine credit hours of college courses that lead to a certificate of proficiency. Persons who complete the nine hours are than eligible to apply for national certification from the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.

College hours earned for the CDA may be applied toward a technical certificate in early childhood education currently offered at the UAM COT-McGehee, and with approval, may apply as electives toward an associate of applied science degree or a baccalaureate degree.
Approval of the CDA program at the Crossett campus now makes the program available at all three UAM campuses.

For more information, contact the UAM College of Technology-Crossett at 1-866-323-3384 (toll-free) or (870) 364-6414.
