Media Services The Arkansas Department of Education has approved a graduate-level program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello to train teachers to become school administrators. The UAM School of Education will begin offering the master of education degree in educational leadership this fall, according to Dr. Peggy Doss, education dean. "This is an important achievement for the School of Education," said Doss. "It allows us to expand opportunities for teachers and strengthen public school administration." The program is designed for licensed teachers with at least three years experience in the classroom. Completion of the master's degree in educational leadership will prepare teachers to be principals and assistant principals at the K-12 level. "I want to congratulate Dr. Doss and the faculty of the School of Education for their efforts in making this program a reality," said UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter. "The training offered by this program will be extremely beneficial to K-12 education in Arkansas." According to Doss, a faculty
committee from the School of Education spent much of
the 2005-06 academic year developing a program of
study to meet Arkansas standards as well as the
standards of the Educational Leadership Constituent
Council (ELCC) and the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ŠThe Voice 2006 Revised 08/30/2006 11:05:03 PM— http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_1/ade.htm |
