Sports Editor Nov. 16 kick-starts the Boll Weevil and Cotton Blossom seasons. Bob Boldon is set to travel to face Eastern Conference foe West Alabama, all the time leading up to the 5:30 p.m. tip will be very instructional as the Blossoms try to mend what some may view as a total tear. On Monday, the Cotton Blossoms played an exhibition game against Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas. However, the team is not taking the 107-53 point thrashing as just a loss, but rather as a learning step towards becoming a division, conference, regional or national champion themselves. Although Baylor may have felt very comfortable by playing at home, the Blossoms almost made it seem as though they never even walked through the doors of Ferrell Center. After giving up 72 points in the paint and scoring only four themselves, the Blossoms also struggled on the boards, losing that battle, 55-22. Do they have room for improvement even if they returned all five starters? Of course they do. "We need to do a better job on finishing around the basket and grabbing the rebounds," Boldon said. While playing in front of a crowd of over 5,000, the defending champions rose to the occasion in sync with Sophia Young's 10-10 in field goals near perfect performance for the night. As fan support is rising at record rates for both the Cotton Blossoms and the Boll Weevils, it would be an honor to be present at a contest that involved 5,000 onlookers. On the other end of the court, the Boll Weevils along with the M & M boys, begin their season with a home opener against Arkansas Baptist at 6 p.m.
