Nov. 16 - Great American Smokeout Prep Day from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in
the Gibson
University Center Green Room. Pick up your FREE survival kit! Through Nov. 17 - "Pulp Fiction," an art exhibit by Ted Barnes and Preston Gilchrist, is on display in the main gallery of the Taylor Library and Technology Center. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Nov. 17-18 - The 2005 Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival will show films in the Fine Arts Center.
Nov. 18 - The Cell Biology class and Medical Sciences Club will travel to
the University of
Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Chancellor Jack Lassiter appointed Linda Yeiser as vice chancellor for Advancement. Yeiser previously worked as the university's vice chancellor for Finance and Administration until 1999. She worked for the past three years as assistant director of Development-Foundation Relations at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas.

Nov. 17 - Thursday - All Day Great American Smoke-Out! (Give up tobacco
TODAY!) Walk, jog or run your way to a GREAT STUDENT (FACULTY/STAFF) BODY and earn a FREE T-shirt! Walk, jog or run 50, 75 or 100 miles by the end of the Fall semester and be well on your way to having a physically fit, "GREAT" Student Body. Participation is open to all current UAM students, faculty and staff. Mileage must be completed by Dec. 16. Miles completed on treadmills, stairmaster, etc. count toward total miles. (Athletes may NOT count miles completed as part of their practice.) Sign up in the Intramural Office (lower level - University Center). Participants are required to record their weekly mileage on the official chart in the Intramural office. Meetings Nov. 16 - The UAM Chess Club will meet Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Room 303 of the Babin Business Center. Nov. 17 - Phi Beta Lambda will hold a meeting at 12:40 p.m. in 120 Babin Business Center. The Alpha Chi Student Honorary conducts regular business meetings for members only during the activity period (12:40 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) on the second Tuesday of each month. Baptist Collegiate Ministries serve lunch Wednesdays at noon. First-timers eat free and everyone else eats for $2. Proceeds benefit summer mission trips and other activities.

Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the
MBSF Center (near the tennis courts). The Social Work Club meets the first Wednesday of each month. U.N.I.T.Y
meets Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in 202 Memorial Classroom Building. The UNITY choir
rehearses Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Music building, Room 133. UNITY is

DREW COUNTY WRITERS - Drew Country Writers seek new members with a
professional attitude and the commitment to publish. Members must produce
tangible evidence that they write, though they may not have published at this
point. The group meets on the third Thursday each month in the First
Presbyterian Church library at 6:30 p.m. Opportunities Nov. 17 - Deadline to buy candles from a Phi Beta Lambda member. The Library is currently hosting an exhibit for Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. Fill out and submit a graduation application to the Registrar’s Office, 102 Harris Hall, by March 1, 2006. Unsure of when you may be eligible to graduate? See your adviser to review your degree audit. December 2005 and May 2006 graduation applications are still being accepted and should be submitted as soon as possible. UNITED WAY - The Fall 2005 United Way Campaign continues through Nov. 21. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL PILLOW DRIVE - The UAM Ambassadors are sponsoring a pillow drive for the Children's Hospital. The Children's Hospital provides a small "travel" pillow to all cancer patients. Generally, this has a pillowcase (new or home-made) pinned with a small note indicating who is providing it and offering "special thoughts." The patients bring their "special" pillow to each treatment or hospitalization. Currently, Children’s Hospital is completely out of these because of the large number of patients. Any individual or organization can donate one or more pillows in the Office of Admissions until Nov. 15. Recycle Your Rechargeable Batteries! - If it's rechargeable, it's recyclable! Just drop off your recyclable batteries in the Physical Plant Office and they will be recycled. The AWS Foundation has announced several scholarship opportunities for students studying welding technology, engineering or associated careers.
