Nov. 7 - Flu Clinic from 9-11 a.m. in the UC Green Room. Shots cost $15 each. If you would like to receive a flu shot and have not contacted Student Health Services to be added to the flu shot list, please do so as soon as possible. Nov. 7-9 - A silent auction for the UAM United Way will be held in the Adams Room of Harris Hall from 9 a.m. - noon (until 2 p.m. Wednesday). Pick up great Christmas gifts!

Nov. 7-18 - Pre-registration for Spring 2006.  The class schedules for Spring 2006 can be accessed from the UAM Web page at http://www.uamont.edu/Schedules/ or click on "Class Schedules" on the home page. Pre-registration instructions are also posted on the Web page. While there is no charge for pre-registering, students have a better chance to get their choices on classes. Once pre-registration ends, the next opportunity to sign up for Spring 2006 classes will be during open registration the week of Jan. 9.

Nov. 8 - The Arkansas Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi holds its initiation ceremony for 34 new members on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. A reception will follow in the Spencer Gallery.

Nov. 9 - Deadline to drop with a "W." After Wednesday, classes may still be dropped; however, the instructor will be asked to supply a grade for each one. If the grade is passing, then a W will go on the transcript. If the grade is failing, an F will go on the transcript. The last day to drop a Fall 2005 class or withdraw from the fall term is Tuesday, Dec. 6. For more information about dropping a class or withdrawing from the University, stop by the registrar’s office (Harris Hall, first floor) or the Student Services Office (Crossett or McGehee), or call 460-1034.

Nov. 9 - Life Share Blood Drive will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the UC Green Room. Contact Student Health Services (460-1051 or Richardson@uamont.edu) to add your name to the donor list. Donors will receive free refreshments and a FREE holiday donor T-shirt! Everyone who donated at the last campus blood drive will be eligible to donate Nov. 9, since donors must wait 56 days between whole blood donations. Nov. 10 - Act Now! Disaster Preparedness for Small Business - Learn about local hazards, planning tools to prepare and assistance to help with aftermath and mitigation of natural disasters Thursday from 1-4 p.m. in the UC Caucus Room. Speaker Timothy Lee, a trainer and Webmaster with the UALR Arkansas Small Business Development Center, represents small business on the Arkansas Governor's Earthquake Advisory Council and the Arkansas Pre-Disaster Mitigation Advisory Council. He conducts disaster-related classes for the American Red Cross and has conducted assessments for major disasters in Arkansas and California. This seminar is FREE to any UAM campus student, staff and faculty (subject to space availability).

Nov. 10 - Mocha Madness! - Public Display of Private pArt: Howl it, Hoof it, Hang it! Take the ever friendly audience for a 5 minute tour of your creativity. Read your original prose. Perform your poetry. Sing / play your self-spun melody and lyrics. Move your all-over to one-of-a-kind choreography. Display your painting, drawing, sculpture or photographs all night as the Creative Society transforms UAM's Patio Cafe'
into an evening of MOCHA MADNESS at 7 p.m. Everyone who brings art for display or performs will take home a hand-crafted ceramic monster piece claw crafted by those merry Creative Society members.

Nov. 11 - The UAM Agri Alumni Society will hold a chicken dinner with all of the trimmings to benefit The Robert C. Kirst Scholarship. Dinners will be available after 11 a.m., either to be delivered or picked up. These dinners consist of one half chicken, two sides, roll and dessert and are only $5 a plate. The dinners will be prepared by the award-winning Tyson Cooking Team, which will be cooking on the Wal Mart parking lot. Tickets can be purchased from any Ag Club member or call 460-1014.

Nov. 11-12 - The Music Theater Workshop presents "Two Barbers" at 7:30 p.m. in the UAM Fine Arts Center.

Through Nov. 17 - "Pulp Fiction," an art exhibit by Ted Barnes and Preston Gilchrist, is on display in the main gallery of the Taylor Library and Technology Center. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Nov. 17-18 - The 2005 Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival will show films in the Fine Arts Center.

The Writing Center
   The Writing Center, located in the Arts and Humanities building, helps UAM students with computer and writing work.
   The Writing Center offers Internet research help and program help for programs such as Microsoft Word.
   The Writing Center helps students with brainstorming ideas for papers. The Web site offers grammar quizzes to help students with grammar.
   The Writing Center opens Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Walk, jog or run your way to a GREAT STUDENT (FACULTY/STAFF) BODY and earn a FREE T-shirt! Walk, jog or run 50, 75 or 100 miles by the end of the Fall semester and be well on your way to having a physically fit, "GREAT" Student Body. Participation is open to all current UAM students, faculty and staff. Mileage must be completed by Dec. 16. Miles completed on treadmills, stairmaster, etc. count toward total miles. (Athletes may NOT count miles completed as part of their practice.) Sign up in the Intramural Office (lower level - University Center). Participants are required to record their weekly mileage on the official chart in the Intramural office.

The Chess Club meets Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in room A-23 of the Science Center.

The Alpha Chi Student Honorary conducts regular business meetings for members only during the activity period (12:40 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) on the second Tuesday of each month. 

Baptist Collegiate Ministries serve lunch Wednesdays at noon. First-timers eat free and everyone else eats for $2. Proceeds benefit summer mission trips and other activities.

The Forestry Club meets Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the forestry building. For more information about the club, visit http://cotton.uamont.edu/~forestryclub/.

Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the MBSF Center (near the tennis courts).

The Social Work Club meets the first Wednesday of each month.

DREW COUNTY WRITERS - Drew Country Writers seek new members with a professional attitude and the commitment to publish. Members must produce tangible evidence that they write, though they may not have published at this point. Planning to graduate in August or December 2006? Fill out and submit a graduation application to the Registrar’s Office, 102 Harris Hall, by March 1, 2006. Unsure of when you may be eligible to graduate? See your adviser to review your degree audit. December 2005 and May 2006 graduation applications are still being accepted and should be submitted as soon as possible.

UNITED WAY - The Fall 2005 United Way Campaign continues through Nov. 21. Interested individuals or student groups wishing to participate should contact Mary Whiting at 460-1026 or whitingm@uamont.edu.

CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL PILLOW DRIVE - The UAM Ambassadors are sponsoring a pillow drive for the Children's Hospital. The Children's Hospital provides a small "travel" pillow to all cancer patients. Generally, this has a pillowcase (new or home-made) pinned with a small note indicating who is providing it and offering "special thoughts." The patients bring their "special" pillow to each treatment or hospitalization. Currently, Children’s Hospital is completely out of these because of the large number of patients. Any individual or organization can donate one or more pillows in the Office of Admissions until Nov. 15.

Recycle Your Rechargeable Batteries! - If it's rechargeable, it's recyclable! Just drop off your recyclable batteries in the Physical Plant Office and they will be recycled. For more information, call 460-1018, visit www.rbrc.org or call 1-800-8-BATTERY for the drop-off location nearest you.

ORGANIZATIONAL DISPLAYS – The library hosts displays of student organizations. For more information, contact Mary Heady, Special Collections Librarian, at 460-1080 or via e-mail at heady@uamont.edu.

The AWS Foundation has announced several scholarship opportunities for students studying welding technology, engineering or associated careers. These opportunities exist for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Application deadlines range from Jan. 15 to March 1. Complete details and applications are available at www.aws.org/foundation.

The Arkansas Governor’s Commission on People with Disabilities awards several scholarships each year. Pick up applications in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall. Deadline for application submission is Feb. 27, 2006. Eligibility for consideration includes:

  1. Completed application;
  2. Documented disability, including completed medical form in the application;
  3. Letter of good standing;
  4. Three letters of recommendation;
  5. Official transcript.

Blackboard bought WebCT, the campus' course management system, with the deal expected to become final sometime in January 2006.

Spring break dates listed in the UAM Catalog 2005-07 for spring 2006 and spring 2007 have been corrected in the online catalog to reflect the following: spring 2006, March 20-24 and spring 2007, March 19-23.

UAM's new master plan is available for viewing on the University Home page.
