United Way Campaign Continues

Katy Murray
Managing Editor

The Fall 2005 United Way campaign for the University of Arkansas -- Monticello began Oct. 21 and will continue through Nov. 21. The Office of Admissions and the Ambassadors are coordinating the UAM effort.

According to Mary Whiting, director of Admissions, this campaign exists as part of the Drew County effort as a whole.

Diane Kidwell, director of regional Development for the United Way of Pulaski County, said, “We are excited about UAM’s participation. Agencies in Drew County raised $40,000 in last year’s campaign.”

The UAM community can contribute by partaking in the following opportunities.

   • Faculty and staff payroll deduction
   • Individual donations
   • Silent auction
   • Dollar Day

Faculty and staff have the opportunity to make a payroll deduction until Nov. 15. This deduction affects the 2006 year because the 2006 United Way campaign begins Jan. 1.

All students, faculty and staff can also contribute by making individual donations. These can be sent to Whiting in the Office of Admissions. Donation jars will also be available on campus Nov. 1 – 15. These will be placed in the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center, the bookstore, Java City and the Registrar’s Office.

Two events also scheduled in the efforts to raise funds for the campaign include a Silent Auction and Dollar Day. The auction will be held Nov. 7-9.

“Great gifts will be available for early Christmas shopping,” Whiting said.

Full details on the event will be sent through student e-mail, including exact times, but it will be located in the Adams Room on the first floor of Harris Hall.

Dollar Day will be held Nov. 15. This day is designated to ask faculty, students and staff to contribute $1 to assist the Drew County efforts, including the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Boys and Girls Clubs.

Interested individuals or student groups wishing to participate should contact Mary Whiting at 460-1026 or whitingm@uamont.edu.
