Film Series Featured in Hot Springs

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute brings back its popular workshop series during the 2005 Documentary Film Festival. Workshops run Oct. 24-29. A full schedule is available at www.hsdfi.org/workshop.

Participants can learn everything from camera basics to advanced lighting with the Pros from Dempsey Film Group on Monday and Tuesday.

Mark Birnbaum brings back his run-and-gun style "One-Man-Band" low-budget production workshop on Wednesday and Thursday. Registration is required.

On Friday and Saturday, Ken Mandel and Tex Frossard lead the shooters through an AVID editing workshop, while Bob Shaw shows great looking tricks in Photoshop for Film.

Friday also brings a presentation by Peabody Award Recipient Richard Wormser about different styles and techniques used during the development of the documentary genres during his long film career.

Saturday is the Open Screening Workshop. All are welcome to bring in a work-in-progress documentary for creative suggestions from the filmmakers. Registration is required.

The workshops are free and open to all. Registration is required for the One-Man-Band workshops, and the Open Screening. One-Man-Band participants need to supply their own cameras, however a limited number of cameras are available through HSDFI.

Films from the festival will be shown in the University of Arkansas-Monticello's Fine Arts Center Nov. 17-18. For more information, contact zac@hsdfi.org or call 501-321-4747.
