Maria McGeehanStaff Writer With the help of the Student Activities Board and the athletic department, the University of Arkansas at Monticello created OKSOBERfest to honor National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week Oct. 17-21. This theme coincides with the NCAA's "I Choose" campaign. "The basic goal is to spread awareness and empower students to make safe choices," said Terri Richardson of Student Health Services and chairman of UAM’s collegiate chapter. Laura Hughes, director of Counseling, Testing and Career Services and also a chairman, described the upcoming events.
"We have a exciting week planned for
the students," she said. "Thanks to the SAB, we were able to purchase the cars and
goggles for one of the events. Also the athletic department provided
the speaker for Tuesday night and I hope for a big turn out."
Students who celebrate OKSOBERfest can enter a drawing to win T-shirts. This is a chance for students to make a difference and see that being sober can be fun too. The chairmen of the NCAA, SAB and the Athletic Department encourages the student body to participate. Have a comment?
