Sports Information Director BIRMINGHAM, ALA. --- University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils running back John L. Williams has been named Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. Williams is the third Boll Weevil to garner honors this season (Anthony Rodriguez was named Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 3, and DeMathus Ledet was named Defensive Player of the Week in Week 6) and the first to garner offensive honors. The sophomore racked up a career-high 206 yards on 30 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per carry in the Boll Weevils' 51-28 loss to Ouachita Baptist. Williams made an immediate impact, taking the game's first play from scrimmage 74 yards for a touchdown. The Gainesville, Fla. native did not stop there, giving the Boll Weevils an early 14-7 lead with a 13-yard touchdown run with just over ten minutes left in the opening quarter. Williams' 206 yards were the most by a GSC rusher this season and were the most by a Boll Weevil since Corwin Elliott rushed for 235 yards against Delta State in the 2001 season. North Alabama linebacker Courtney Wright and Ouachita Baptist placekicker Zac Wright garnered defensive and special teams honors, respectively. Courtney Wright is the first UNA defender to earn laurels this season, spearheading the Lions' defense in a 31-21 win at Southern Arkansas. The senior turned in a dominating performance versus the Muleriders, racking up a 17 total tackles behind 14 solos. Wright also added 3.5 tackles for a loss of 10 yards, recovered two fumbles, and forced another fumble. North Alabama turned both of the Wetumpka, Ala. native's fumble recoveries into touchdown drives. Zac Wright is the second OBU player to capture Special Teams honors this season. The freshman turned in a perfect performance in the Tigers' 51-28 home triumph over the Boll Weevils, going 3-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on point after attempts.
