Blossoms Suffer Sweeps

Blossoms Swept by Lady Bucs

   After holding the Lady Buccaneers close in the first two games, the University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms (4-14, 0-6 GSC) fell behind early in the third and deciding game, falling 3-0 to Christian Brothers Oct. 6 at Steelman Fieldhouse.

   The Blossoms went point-for-point with the Lady Bucs in the two opening games, falling 30-28 and 32-30, before Christian Brothers opened up a 21-11 lead in the third game before the Blossoms were able to narrow the match to 30-25 at the end.

   Amanda Sayre led the Blossoms with a game-high 15 kills, while Kasey McBrearty chipped in 14. Maegan Martin led UAM with 38 assists and 21 digs. Also in double-digit digs were Amie Kronk (13) and McBrearty (11).

   The Blossoms return to action Oct. 8 at 1 p.m., traveling to Pine Bluff to face the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The Blossoms return home Friday, Oct. 14 to face Arkansas Tech.

Blossoms Swept by Sugarbears

   Despite a 16 kill effort from Sayre, the Cotton Blossoms were swept 3-0 by the University of Central Arkansas Sugarbears (15-8, 3-2 GSC) Oct. 4 at Steelman Fieldhouse.

   The Sugarbears held the Blossoms at arm's length the entire way, taking game decisions of 30-24, 30-23 and 30-26 en route to the victory.

   Sayre's 16 kills led the Blossoms, while McBrearty was also in double-digits for UAM. Sallye Cockrell led UCA with 13 kills and a .550 hitting percentage.

  Martin's 38 assists led all players, and Katherine Brown's 21 digs led all players. Joining Brown in double-digit digs was Sayre (11).
