BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- University of Arkansas at Monticello free safety DeMathus Ledet has been named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Weevil's Oct. 1 loss to Southern Arkansas.

Ledet is the first Weevil to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and the second UAM player to earn Player of the Week honors after Anthony Rodriguez earned special teams honors earlier this season.

Ledet was all over the field on Saturday for the Boll Weevils, racking up 14 tackles with four solo stops. Ledet also had a hand in three of SAU’s five turnovers, grabbing two interceptions for 67 yards and recovering a fumble. Ledet also broke up two passes.

"I think DeMathus is definitely deserving of this award," Boll Weevils' head coach Gwaine Mathews said. "His work ethic is unmatched every day at practice. It's a shame that I will only have one year to coach him."
