October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month Oct. 8-9 - "Weevil Wars" is shaping up to be a large tournament. "There are about 80 something people entered already, and we still have entries coming in," Forensics coach Scott Kuttenkuler said. This free event starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and is open to the public. Oct. 10 - A free, public seminar features M. David Luneau, Jr., who filmed the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker when the bird was re-discovered after being thought extinct. The school of Forest Resources sponsors Monday's seminar at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 - The Assembly holds its first meeting Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in Spencer Gallery of the Fine Arts Center. The agenda details expected discussion topics. Oct. 11 - The 2005 Homecoming Court group picture will be taken Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. in the Gibson University Center Green Room. Oct. 12 - Sigma Apollo, the Phi Beta Sigma Talent Show, will be held in the Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5, and admission is $3. A prize of $100 will be awarded to the winner. Oct. 10 - Monday 4 p.m. Soccer Tournament begins Walk, jog or run your way to a GREAT STUDENT (FACULTY/STAFF) BODY and earn a FREE T-shirt! Walk, jog or run 50, 75 or 100 miles by the end of the Fall semester and be well on your way to having a physically fit, "GREAT" Student Body. Participation is open to all current UAM students, faculty and staff. Mileage must be completed by Dec. 16. Miles completed on treadmills, stairmaster, etc. count toward total miles. (Athletes may NOT count miles completed as part of their practice.) Sign up in the Intramural Office (lower level - University Center). Participants are required to record their weekly mileage on the official chart in the Intramural office.

Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the MBSF Center (near the tennis courts). The Social Work Club meets the first Wednesday of each month. 2006 Yearbook - Make sure your student organization appears in the 2006 yearbook. Fill out this contract and return it to 101 Jeter Hall by Nov. 4. See the UAM band participating in the Vilonia Homecoming ceremonies. DREW COUNTY WRITERS - Drew Country Writers seek new members with a professional attitude and the commitment to publish. Members must produce tangible evidence that they write, though they may not have published at this point. The group meets on the third Thursday each month in the First Presbyterian Church library at 6:30 p.m. At the upcoming Oct. 20 meeting, membership and critiquing guidelines will be formalized, and an annual, affordable membership fee will be instituted to cover incidental organizational costs. UNITED WAY - The Fall 2005 United Way Campaign will be held Oct. 21 through Nov. 21. PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST - The Ambassadors will sponsor a Pumpkin Decorating Contest Oct. 28. While any recognized campus organization can enter, each organization may enter only once. Though no entry fee is required, the deadline to enter is Oct. 24. A DECORATED pumpkin (not carved) must be turned into the Office of Admissions by noon Oct. 26. Pumpkins will be judged on idea, creativity, originality and neatness. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. All pumpkins will be donated to a local children’s home for their annual pumpkin auction (Please keep this in mind when decorating). Entry forms are available in the Office of Admissions. "Bloodlust and Chili Dogs," a student organized film, is looking for talent. If you are too shy to be on screen, then there are plenty of off-screen positions yet to be filled.
