The University of Arkansas at
Monticello received approval from the Arkansas
Department of Education for its program in heavy
equipment operation training offered at the
Southeast Arkansas Community-Based Education Center in Warren.
Students enrolled in the 37-week program are eligible to receive
financial aid, according to UAM Chancellor Jack
Lassiter.
“This is a program that has taken on a good deal of added
importance in recent weeks,” Lassiter said. “The
need for skilled, well-trained heavy equipment
operators will be essential in the clean-up of New
Orleans and the Gulf Coast region and also in the
construction of new highways. This is going to be a
high-demand field, and we’re excited to be able to
offer a program with so much opportunity.”
The heavy equipment operator training
program required 870 clock hours of training and counts
as 42 semester hours of vocational training. Persons
interested in enrolling in the program should contact
Teresa Sandine at SEACBEC at (870) 226-6920. For
information about financial aid, contact Susan Brewer,
UAM director of Financial Aid, at (870) 460-1050.
