On the Docket Sept. 24 - The forensics team competes at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. Sept. 26 - Robert "red hawk" Moore, professor of English, and Gary "Mars Hall" Marshall, professor of Speech, will give a free, public poetry reading in the Music Building's Harris Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Sept. 26-29 - "Fat Facts Week," sponsored by Student Health Services at the Exercise Center (lower level of the University Center), invites the UAM community to measure height, weight and body fat percentage. Sept. 27-29 - Homecoming elections will be held in the Science Center (Tuesday), Memorial Classroom Building (Wednesday) and the University Center (Thursday). Sept. 27 - Senior nursing students will discuss living with diabetes at a free public presentation from 9-11 a.m. at the Spencer Gallery of the Fine Arts Center. The presentation will include a discussion of treatments, medications and special considerations for individuals with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Walk, jog or run 50, 75 or 100 miles by the end of the Fall semester and be well on your way to having a physically fit, "GREAT" Student Body. Participation is open to all current UAM students, faculty and staff. Mileage must be completed by Dec. 16. Miles completed on treadmills, stairmaster, etc. count toward total miles. (Athletes may NOT count miles completed as part of their practice.) Sign up in the Intramural Office (lower level - University Center). Participants are required to record their weekly mileage on the official chart in the Intramural office. Meetings Sept. 26 - The 2006 Drew County United Way campaign will hold its organizational committee meeting Monday at 3:15 p.m. in the Adams Room, on the first floor of Harris Hall. Any interested UAM employee or student is welcome to attend this meeting to plan UAM’s campaign. The Alpha Chi Student Honorary conducts regular business meetings for members only during the activity period (12:40 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) on the second Tuesday of each month. The Chi Iota Sigma club meets on the first Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. and is open to all CIS majors and minors. They are currently collecting items for Hurricane Katrina victims who are in Monticello. Thus far, they have donated clothing, toiletries and games. The club will elect a vice-president at its Oct. 6 meeting. The Chess Club meets Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in room A-23 of the Science Center.
