The Voice, the online student newspaper of the University of Arkansas at Monticello, won second place for the Best Web Edition at the recent 2006 Arkansas College Media Association contest.

Bradly Gill of Dumas, editor-in-chief of The Voice, accepted the award during the annual ACMA media convention April 26 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Gill also won a third place individual award for review writing.

Representing UAM at the convention were Gill, Managing Editor Todd Kelley, a junior from Crossett, Arts and Entertainment Editor Danielle Thomas, a first-year journalism student from Vilonia, and web designer Orkhan Rzayev, a freshman business major from Baku, Azerbaijan. Ronald Sitton, faculty adviser and assistant professor of journalism, accompanied the students.

"I'm extremely proud of this year's staff," Sitton said. "They overcame some adversity and their hard work paid off."

Other staff members include Commentary Editor Nancy Stephan of Monticello, Copy Editor Stephanie Watson of Pine Bluff, Sports Editor Will Collins of Foreman, and staff writers Lori Andrews of DeValls Bluff, Brooke Burger of El Dorado, Andrea Copeland of Fordyce, Lisa Hasman of Gould, Linna Jones of Gould, Kaci Kizer of Pine Bluff, John Kloap of Stuttgart, Mary Knight of Star City, Buford Lamb of Lonoke, Ashley Lowery of El Dorado, Sally Lybrand of Rison, Bobby Ozment of Banks and Marcus Roberts of White Hall. Michael Ford, a junior from Crossett, will serve as editor-in-chief for the 2006-07 academic year.

Other colleges and universities represented at the convention were UA-Fayetteville, UA-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Arkansas Tech, John Brown, Harding, Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas, and Hendrix.

Now in its third year, The Voice covers campus news at UAM, including the Crossett and McGehee campuses.
