The Voice, the online student newspaper of the
University of Arkansas at Monticello, won second place
for the Best Web Edition at the recent 2006 Arkansas
College Media Association contest.
Bradly Gill of Dumas, editor-in-chief of The Voice, accepted the
award during the annual ACMA media convention April 26
at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Gill
also won a third place individual award for review
writing.
"This is a wonderful achievement for our students, and I commend
them for their efforts," UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter
said.
Representing UAM at the convention were Gill, Managing Editor Todd
Kelley, a junior from Crossett, Arts and Entertainment
Editor Danielle Thomas, a first-year journalism student
from Vilonia, and web designer Orkhan Rzayev, a freshman
business major from Baku, Azerbaijan. Ronald Sitton,
faculty adviser and assistant professor of journalism,
accompanied the students.
"I'm extremely proud of this year's staff," Sitton said. "They overcame
some adversity and their hard work paid off."
Other staff members include Commentary Editor Nancy Stephan of
Monticello, Copy Editor Stephanie Watson of Pine Bluff,
Sports Editor Will Collins of Foreman, and staff writers
Lori Andrews of DeValls Bluff, Brooke Burger of El
Dorado, Andrea Copeland of Fordyce, Lisa Hasman of
Gould, Linna Jones of Gould, Kaci Kizer of Pine Bluff,
John Kloap of Stuttgart, Mary Knight of Star City,
Buford Lamb of Lonoke, Ashley Lowery of El Dorado, Sally
Lybrand of Rison, Bobby Ozment of Banks and Marcus
Roberts of White Hall. Michael Ford, a junior from
Crossett, will serve as editor-in-chief for the 2006-07
academic year.
Other colleges and
universities represented at the convention were UA-Fayetteville,
UA-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Arkansas Tech, John
Brown, Harding, Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas, and
Hendrix.

Now in its third year, The Voice covers campus news at UAM,
including the Crossett and McGehee campuses.
