The concert choir performed its spring concert Tuesday, April 25, in the Fine Arts Center.

The Choir began the performance singing "Ehres Sei Dir, Christe" from St. Matthew Passion written by Heinrich Schutz. Before beginning the seventh song, conductor Kent Skinner announced senior Tracy Sutherland won the Janis A. Taylor Music Award.

Janis Taylor presented the award to Sutherland, who described receiving the award.

"It was overwhelming because I know the past participants. It feels really good to be placed in the same category as them," Sutherland said.

The Janis A. Taylor Music Award started as a birthday surprise for Taylor on Nov. 4, 2000. It awards hard-working music students for a year’s work. The faculty selects the outstanding student.

Gotcha! - Kent Skinner, Tracy Sutherland and Janice Taylor pause for a photo.

The soloist for the performance included Amanda Couch singing soprano and playing the piano; Amanda Kilcrease and Sarah Hornsby singing alto; Jason Bowen, Brent Miller, Robert Fellows Jr., John Gladden and Jim Reeves singing bass; Rayburn Ezell singing tenor; Colby Boyce singing baritone; Tracy Sutherland and Regina Vaughn singing soprano and Stephen Trana on clarinet.

The choir sang wonderfully and, in the end, received a standing ovation from the audience.
