Staff Writer New cheerleaders have been selected for next year. Cheerleader tryouts conducted April 8 provided the opportunity for male and female students and high school students to tryout. The students selected were seniors Meggan LeMarche and Brad Sears, juniors Caswanna Allen and Courtney Livingston, and first-year students Brandon Bryant from Sherwood, Kristy Cameron from Crossett, Jessica Turner from Sherwood, Jack Michael McDaniels from Hamburg, and Amanda Smith from Hamburg as the mascot. Nine girls and three boys participated in the tryout. The womens tryout consisted of a cheer, chant, dances and the fight song. The mens tryout consisted of a cheer, chant and the fight song. The male and female students worked together doing stunts like toss-to-chair, toss-to-hands, and the optional extension. The total number of points possible for the entire tryout was 250 points; more advanced skills received bonus points and knowing how to tumble helped the participant's chances. The cheerleaders will receive professional training from the Universal Cheerleading Association. Robin Barker commented on the hiring of the UCA. "We hired the Universal Cheerleading Association to teach cheer, chant, dance and the fight song," Barker said.
