After a short absence last year, the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s annual year-opening party returned in full swing Sept. 8. Sponsored by Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, Bahama Bash included events like the slip-n-slide, the dance contest, horseshoes and the ever-popular Bahama Mama contest, a hybrid dance/dress/crowd response battle. “To be honest with you, I’m more excited about the Bahama Mama contest,” Social Chairman Will Caldwell said. While Hawaiian clothes were encouraged, they were not mandatory. Refreshments were served just through the bamboo doors, and a live DJ provided the tunes. "I’m just excited to welcome all the new freshmen and, hopefully, everyone will get leid,” Sig Tau President Bradley Fryer said.
The fraternity took up donations of clothes and non-perishable food items for families affected by the recent hurricane in Louisiana.
