Sports Information Director The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils and Cotton Blossoms basketball teams swept Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors last week, as both Wendy Young (Sr., Chapmans, St. Vincent) and Billy McDaniel (Sr., Hearne, Texas) brought home awards. Young earns her first Player of the Week award of the season after leading the Cotton Blossoms to a 2-0 record on the week, defeating Southern Arkansas in Magnolia and Central Arkansas at home. She averaged 25.5 points and seven rebounds on the week, shooting 65.5 percent from the field and 65.0 percent from the line. She began the week with a 26-point, six-rebound effort in a 74-55 win over SAU, and a 25-point, eight-rebound effort as the Blossoms topped UCA 71-66.
McDaniel started the week with a bang, tying a career-high with 34 points while adding 11 rebounds in an 87-69 win over SAU; and wrapped up the week with a 17-point, 13-rebound night in a 69-60 win over UCA.
