"Responsible for 13 percent of the world's pollution"
Bush delivers State of the Union, manages to not screw up
I’m usually a fairly harsh critic of G.W., but he honestly
surprised me with his State of the Union address. Not only did the president
throw the fact that America is an oil addicted country on the table, he actually
proposed a solution (well, kind of). Bush said we must develop better technology
in order to cut down our dependence on foreign oil. I have to admit, the
thundering applause became a bit redundant after a while though. Bush was
applauded 60 times in 52 minutes.
Western Union telegrams. Stop.
On Jan. 27, Western Union discontinued its 145-year-old telegram
service. The service has waned since the '80s, when long distance phone rates
became a cheaper alternative. I’m sure some people are real torn up about this,
and I’m also sure they fought in the Civil War. The rest of the world will just
have to get by with e-mail.
Reach out and Constitutionally violate someone
AT&T faces litigation after allegedly allowing the National
Security Administration a direct link to a database. The lawsuit, filed by the
Electronic Frontier Foundation, stems from an anonymous source quoted in the Los
Angeles Times. I guess people have another reason to switch phone companies now.
Oprah hates liars, loves Dr. Phil
Author James Frey committed an unpardonable sin. He made Oprah and
a country full of housewives look like jackasses. After portions of
his book, “A Million Little Pieces” were proven false, Oprah
lambasted him on national television. It’s a damned book people; who
cares if he told the truth or not? It’s not like he’s running the
country.
Read of the Week
"A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey
You just might
recognize this book as being one of Oprah’s book club picks last year. Frey
recounts from memory the events of his tragic drug addiction and subsequent
recovery. The author describes the book as “subjective truth.” Hey, If Oprah
recommended it, it has to be true. Right?
