Potlatch Corporation has presented the last of three annual $6,000 contributions to the Arkansas Heavy Equipment Operator Training Academy, according to Bob Ware, vice chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee.

According to a Potlatch spokesperson, the contribution is part of a commitment by Potlatch to assist with the start-up and development of a technical training and education program to meet the growing need for skilled logging and construction equipment operators.

The AHEOTA is housed at the Southeast Arkansas Community-Based Education Center in Warren and is under the supervision of the UAM College of Technology-McGehee.

"We're very grateful to Potlatch Corporation for their support of this program," Ware said. "This contribution will help us meet the growing demand for qualified and well-trained heavy equipment operators, not only in the timber industry, but in other areas as well."

Chancellor Jack Lassiter thanked Potlatch "for their efforts in helping UAM to reach out to the region in new areas of public service."

"This will have a direct impact on the economy and provide jobs for southeast Arkansas," he added.
